How to sell clothing in Second Life
Second Life has a real economy: residents pay Linden dollars (L$), which can be exchanged for real money. Clothing sells in two places - in-world stores and the web Marketplace - and most creators use both.
What you need
- A finished, tested product with permissions set
- A product picture
- A place to sell: a Marketplace store, land or a rented shop
Steps
- Pack the product. Put the garment in every body size, the HUD and a notecard into a box or folder.
- Make a demo. Offer a free demo version, clearly marked, so people can try the fit on their own body.
- Make the picture. A clear, well-lit picture that shows the real product, with the supported bodies named on it.
- List on the Marketplace. Open a Marketplace store, list the product with good keywords: garment type, body names, style.
- Sell in-world. Rent a shop or set up on your own land, and put the product in a vendor or set the box for sale.
- Be seen. Take part in shopping events, start a store group, and post pictures where Second Life fashion is followed.
Tips
- Support the bodies your customers actually wear, even if that means fewer designs.
- Answer customer notecards quickly; reviews follow service.
- Premade full-perm meshes are a way to earn from your modelling without running a fashion brand.
