How to get a mesh body developer kit for Second Life
To make clothing for a mesh body you need that body as a rigged model in Blender. Body makers hand it out as a developer kit - usually free, usually on application.
What you need
- A Second Life account, often with a store or some work to show
- The body maker's website or in-world information
Steps
- Choose the bodies you will support. Start with one or two that your customers wear.
- Find the application. Each maker has a creator page or form, linked from their website, their store or their group notices.
- Apply. You are usually asked for your avatar name, your store and what you make. Some kits are given at once, some after review.
- Read the licence. Kits come with rules: no sharing, use for Second Life products only, how to name the body in your listings.
- Open the kit in Blender. A kit normally contains the rigged body with fitted-mesh weights, sometimes in several sizes or poses.
- Keep it current. Bodies get updates. Re-download when the maker announces a new version.
Tips
- Never use a body file from anywhere but its maker.
- If a kit is refused at first, build a small portfolio and apply again.
- The body's own skeleton and weights are the source for your weight transfer.
