How to refit clothing to another mesh body in Blender

Customers wear different bodies, and each body has its own shape and its own weights. Refitting reuses your design, UVs and textures and redoes only the fit and the rig.

What you need

Steps

  1. Bring in the new body. Load the second body's kit into the same file, in the same pose.
  2. Reshape the garment. Move it onto the new body with the sculpt Grab and Smooth brushes, proportional editing, or a lattice. Work from large changes to small.
  3. Keep the UVs untouched. Do not add or remove geometry if you can avoid it: your textures and normal maps then carry over as they are.
  4. Throw away the old weights. Delete the garment's vertex groups; they belonged to the other body.
  5. Copy the new weights. Transfer the weights from the new body, limit to four, normalize, and test in poses.
  6. Upload and test on that body. Wear it on the real body in Second Life and go through its shape sliders.

This page is a written overview. In the SL Designers video courses you watch clothing being made from start to finish, and our Blender addons take over much of the technical work.
